I recently had a friend post a comment on my blog about how many “life changes” I’ve been through in the past couple of years. I hadn’t really thought that much about it. Sometimes, when you are busy living life, it’s easy not to sit back and reflect on all the things that have really happened.

So, I sat back and thought about my life over the past 2 1/2ish years, and I realized how right she was.
Since May of 2008 I –
graduated college
moved to N.C.
worked at Duke
fell in love across the world with a Marine in Japan
got engaged
left N.C.
got married
lived in Arizona, Japan, and Atlanta, and then back to Japan.
Moved to S.C. with my husband
we bought a house
and now in just a few short weeks we are having a baby.
All of that in less than 3 years.
I guess that is a lot of change in a short amount of time.
One thing that I’ve been wanting to do since Grant and I got married was write out our story. I’ve had a lot of people ask me about our engagement and marriage and I’ve wanted to sit down and write out all that happened while the memories are still fresh, but that takes time.
Also, I think stories are often so much better told through the lens of time and wisdom. I think me writing out our story after 20 or 30 years of marriage would be a lot more meaningful than just 1 1/2 years after getting married.
But, I don’t want to forget. So, I’m going to write what I can now. And I’m worried if I don’t start now, I might not ever do it.
I have another reason for attempting to write out our story – that God would be glorified. I truly believe that He is the sovereign orchestrator of the events of our lives as Believers. And as we trust our lives to Him, we get to see Him work in ways that we would have never imagined or pictured for ourselves. And that is such a wonderful story.
I hope that every post on this blog brings glory to God and His goodness.

  1. A wonderful idea, GraceAnna! I have been wanting to do the same thing for a while now too, and just haven't gotten to it. Maybe your beginning will inspire me to get my story-telling on too. 🙂
